Saint Louis Sudbury School volunteer, Max, has another amazing volunteer gig! Max has been volunteering at Little Bit Foundation for years in addition to all the great work he does for Sudbury. Max connected Sudbury staff with Little Bit Foundation Senior Manager of Volunteer and Community Outreach, Bryan Walker, and a memorable service field trip was organized! Sudbury students, staff, and volunteers unboxed, removed tags, and sorted pants and shoes for under-resourced students in St. Louis. We learned how Little Bit Foundation gets clothes, shoes, supplies, hygiene items, toys, books, and more to give to young people; how many students they serve each year (17,000+); how if they didn’t have volunteers to help, they would have to hire 13 full-time staff; how they work with schools in 42 zip codes; how it is easier to learn when your essentials are taken care of; and much more. Saint Louis Sudbury School students said that they want to go back to volunteer again!
The mission of the Little Bit Foundation is to break down barriers to learning for under-resourced students through partnerships and programs that serve the needs of the whole child and provide access to essential services and educational experiences. Their core values are integrity, compassion, dignity, and excellence. Little Bit Foundation’s programs include health and nutrition, essentials, wellness and family support, academic enrichment, and college and career readiness. Little Bit Foundation partners with schools where 90 to 100% of students qualify for the free and reduced lunch program, meaning they are living at or below the federal poverty line.
