Are you curious about Self-Directed Education? Is conventional school not feeling right for your child? Are you looking for a unique educational approach that has been around since 1968 (Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts was the first Sudbury model school that inspired dozens more throughout the world) but is still considered radical by many today? Do you see learning to live life as the most vital and challenging lesson of all? Do you see children as humans now who fully deserve trust, respect, and dignity, instead of not being worthy of such things until they turn the arbitrary age of 18?
Young people ages 5 to 18 (recommended for ages 7+) are invited to try the Saint Louis Sudbury School experience for one or more weeks this summer.* Monday-Friday. Students may arrive any time between 8:30 am and 10:30 am. Afternoon pick up is from 3 to 3:30 pm. We are located inside Intersect Arts Center in South City, 3636 Texas Ave, St. Louis, MO 63118.
The Summer Visiting Weeks at Sudbury are a great opportunity to get a feel for what a learning environment with no tests, no homework, no required curriculum, and no grades feels like before beginning the admissions process to sign a School Year contract. If you enroll for the upcoming 9-month School Year, you will be given a one time, maximum credit of $175 to be used towards tuition costs. The Summer Visiting Weeks program is a great look at the Sudbury school model during the much quieter summer months when only a handful of current Sudbury students are in attendance (the whole group returns in September). In the less busy summer session, thereβs more time for a prospective student to ask questions from students and staff about how the Sudbury model works and get used to what itβs like to have freedom to choose how you want to spend your day. We do recommend to include a portion of a Visiting Week during September when our entire group of students is back in session.
Our school is based on the principle that we are born curious and learn best when we initiate our own learning. We offer fully Self-Directed Education in a self-governing democracy.
